Over on Down The Tubes John Freeman has assembled a good chunk of the reports, arguments and counter-arguments about the state of British comics publishing, sparked off by a Mintel report which claims a rise of some 72% for comics since 2003, against a marked decline in teenage magazines. A number of folks in various journals and sites have been discussing them, some saying its a trend that will continue, some that it will decline (and given the current economic climate any estimate, no matter how learned, may be guesswork); John has included links to a number of comments and reasons given (is the increase down to tie-in titles linked to popular TV shows? And if so, is that a good thing when traditional comics can’t shift as much as a TV tie-in?), taking in business analysts, David Fickling, Steve Holland and others, all in one handy post.
