Anyone working in the book trade is aware that the far east and China feature fairly often in trade news for unauthorised copying or pirating of copyrighted material for resale. Over on Down The Tubes John Freeman has a report (with a plethora of links for further reading) on how this has recently affected some British artists like Jonathan Edwards who has seen illustrations of his ripped off wholesale for a Hong Kong published book and CD as well as the text of entire interviews from the splendid Little Chimp Society website also being ripped off for the book, Colorful Illustrations 93oC. Unsurprisingly those affected are urging anyone who comes across the book not to buy it since it is filled with other writers and artist’s material used without their permission – the publishers have apparently not even bothered to rename some of the image files after stealing them from websites, the downside of creators going online to share work with fans. John has the full story on DTT.
