Comic Book Dreams

Pádraig Ó Méalóid spotted news from Todd Klein recently – you may remember that during his recent (and very fine, if I do say so myself) interview with Todd Pádraig raised the subject of the limited edition prints that Todd had created in collaboration first with Alan Moore then Neil Gaiman, respectively the Alphabets of Desire and Before You Read This, which have sold extremely well, prompting a second run of the signed works (I’m glad to say I pounced right away and treated myself to both). Well Todd told us that he had a third project in the works, this time with an artist rather than a writer, but it was in the early stages so he couldn’t give us any more details. Now he has announced it over on his blog – it is Comic Book Dreams and Todd is working with comics superstar artist Alex Ross to create it.

Since July I’ve been saying I had a third signed print in the works, this one a collaboration with an artist rather than a writer, but I was reluctant to say who until I had the art in hand, in case anything went awry. Well, the art came in last week, and it’s this stunning piece by Alex Ross that far outshines the meager concept I gave him. The print will be called “Comic Book Dreams”, and will have quite a bit of lettering on it. I’ll be showing that, and writing about the evolution of the print in the coming weeks, but right now I have to get them printed, painted, and off to Alex for signing. I’m hoping to have them ready for sale the last week of November,” Todd Klein describing the new print project on his blog.

Pádraig points out that Neil Gaiman has observed that the first of Todd’s super team-ups with other top creators, the Alan Moore-penned, Todd-designed Alphabets of Desire begins with an ‘A’ (very appropriate for an alphabetically themed work), Neil’s piece begings with a ‘B’, now the upcoming Alex piece begins with a ‘C’. Is this coincidence or will we finally see some twenty six collaborations in this series? And would that mean the final one would be a project with Michael Zulli painting zebras and Zulus?
