Do you remember The First Time?

General

Do you remember the first time?
I can’t remember a worse time.
But you know that we’ve changed so much since then,
oh yeah,
we’ve grown.
Now I don’t care what you’re doing,
no I don’t care if you screw him.
Just as long as you save a piece for me,
oh yeah

Pulp, Do You Remember the First Time

Kenny noticed that there’s a new collection from NBM, First Time, which collects erotic works by  several European contributors, including Cyril Pedrosa, Olivier Vatine and Dave McKean, all exploring first sexual experiences (from the first time having sex to the first time trying something more unusual in your sex life – women ’strapping it on’ are mentioned, which I, of course, am far to genteel to understand), “written by a French woman with some decidedly spicy ideas about sex.”

(frames from Dave McKean’s segment of First Time, borrowed from the NBM site – be warned the rest of the page is more explicit and likely to ‘deprave and corrupt’!)

Which sadly we are unlikely to see as it won’t be available in the UK, presumably because of the content upsetting the poor, gentle, innocent souls at HM Customs. To be sure from the description on NBM’s site and the previews NBM has up (and also Delacourt for the French edition) it is sexually explicit, but since it is for adults, really, what is the problem? Especially when far more explicit (and much less artistic) sexual material is available but a mouse click away online at any time. This comes just as Dirk on Journalista notes that Australian authorities have a problem with the new Erotic Comics book, wanting it either marked with a large ‘M’ to denote adult content (as the article says, presumably the word ‘erotic’ prominent on the title already does that?) or simply banned. Nice to see authorities in different countries deciding what we can look at without suddenly ripping off our clothes and running around the streets committing hideous acts of sex and violence inspired by media stimulation (dons his bowler hat and droog suit, puts Beethoven on the stereo…)
