From Our Continental Correspondent – Arno in Angoulème

At the Angoulème festival early next year (January 29th to February 1st), Flanders will be the focus country.  This means that you will be able to visit an exhibition (Ceci n’est pas la BD Flamande) with work of, well, every single important new Flemish cartoonist, but also a smaller exhibition with work by the godfathers of my country’s comics (Vandersteen, Sleen, Morris, De Moor and Nys).  But, more importantly, this also means that Arno, Flemish rockeur and world famous in France, will make an appearance at a special concert: Arno will sing his songs, and cartoonists Nix and Johan De Moor will do live illustration.

If you want to get an idea of how this works, just look at these videos, shot at the Turnhout Festival last year, when a concert by Dutch singer-songwriter Spinvis was illustrated by a plethora of Dutch and Flemish cartoonists (and even some American ones into the bargain).  Looks like this might be becoming a tradition…
