BoDoi, the French comics magazine, announces that celebrated animator and cartoonist Guy Delisle has opened his own corner of the web, just in time for the release of his new book, Louis à la Plage (Louis At The Beach, published in Lewis Trondheim’s imprint, Shampooing, at Delcourt).

For once this creator site is a very exciting one, cutting down on the frills in favour of interesting content. He gives information on his way of working, his documentation and sketches, and correspondence with translators and collaborators. In full DVD-style, Delisle also presents “deleted scenes” from his latest book, Chroniques Birmanes, which was reviewed here back in March (An English translation, The Burma Chronicles, will be published by Drawn And Quarterly in September). There are also panels and even full pages from stories that he abandoned or that were refused by the publishers for one reason or another.

Delisle’s past as an animator becomes clear in his latest book, which features flip-book animations in the corners of the pages (remember the original Madman books? Well, something like that). On the website, these are presented as the cute full-fledged animations that they are, well worth a visit.
Wim Lockefeer lives in Belgium and when not contemplating the philosophical ramifications of the world of Plonk he writes extensively on comics culture and art; you can read more of his work on his own Ephemerist blog.
