Awards, Film, TV and radio

The late Heath Ledger has been honoured in his home nation; the actor posthumously won the International Award from the Australian Film Institute for his portrayal of the Joker in the Batman movie The Dark Knight. Ledger is also being talked up by many movie pundits as a strong contender come Oscar time in 2009; in related news it looks like Warners may be re-releasing The Dark Knight early next year for a second run in cinemas, despite now being out on DVD, although I’m not sure if this second release will only be for the US market or globally (and it would be just ahead of Oscar time, boosting the film’s visibility to Academy members as they are deluged with their annual ‘for your consideration’ bumf).
