Film, TV and radio

Director McG has been showing some footage from the upcoming Terminator: Salvation movie and discussing the film with journalists in London. The film (the first in a projected new trilogy) is set in 2018, with human survivors dealing with the ongoing after-effects of the Credit Crunch and the global recession… Okay, its the aftermath of the nuclear holocaust instigated by Skynet, with the machines trying to wipe out what survives of humanity after the nuclear conflagration. Its the war John Connor was born to fight, so far glimpsed only in short scenes in the previous Terminator films, now coming to centre stage, with Batman star Christian Bale playing the adult version of the resistance’s leader.

Rumours have been flying that the original Terminator, Arnold Schwarzenegger, has taken some time out from being the Governator of California to cameo in the movie, perhaps even just by proxy after having his image scanned and digitally mapped onto a Terminator’s face, but McG refuses to be drawn on the veracity of such speculation, so we’ll have to wait and see. The film is due in the UK in June 2009 and in a nice touch McG announced that it will be dedicated to the late special effects wizard Stan Winston, who had been working with him on the film before his untimely death.
