Doctor Who William Hartnell Santa Claus.jpg

Time for a little Doctor Who related seasonal nonsense – Steve Flannagan posted a look at some Christmas-related Who material last year which I totally missed, but its still worth a look now if you didn’t see it before, including the above panel from a 60s TV Comic Doctor Who strip featuring the first Doc, William Hartnell. And now for something completely different…

I bring you greetings from all Daleks

Im Gonna Spend My Christmas With A Dalek.jpg

I’m gonna spend my Christmas with a Dalek,
And hug him under the mistletoe
And if he’s very nice, I’ll feed him sugar spice and hang Christmas stocking on his big left toe
And when we both get up on Christmas morning
And kiss him on his chrome implanted head
And take him in to say i demand, and frighten daddy out of his bed!

(the Go-Gos and I’m Gonna Spend My Christmas With A Dalek)

Yes, it is a real song, it was actually released as a single in December 1964 and even given the tradition of some daft holiday songs it was pretty odd – what can I say, the Daleks were huge in Britain in the 60s (the height of Dalekmania) and so were recreational pharmaceuticals and popular music, a heady cocktail… For some reason this popped into my mind – I’ve heard about it in various Doctor Who reference books over the years although I don’t think I’ve ever seen it, but now through the magic of YouTube we can all bask in some 60s sci-fi pop culture silliness:
