Comics and cartoons

Over on the new Blank Slate Books blog Kenny talks about a classic comics artist I’d never heard of, Jack Daniel (yeah, seriously! As Kenny observes, just try putting his name into Google to try and find out more…) and has a page of his art from a Western strip from the Eagle, reprinted in a Hawk collection Kenny picked up at a car boot sale (some of you may remember the Dan Dare strips Hawk collected, printed in a size and format closer to the original Eagle style if I recall right, I bought several of those for my dad).

I love the work. It’s something to do with the shapes, I think. I also think I like that it isn’t perfect. The funny thing is I immediatly thought Mental Men – something to do with the faces. I’d like to have seen him draw some Haunted(Cowboy)Tales. Nice find.
