Good chum of the blog John Reppion swaps his comics creator hat for his book writing cap this July – John will be launching 800 Years of Haunted Liverpool (published by the History Press) on Saturday 5th July from 6 to 8pm at the Unity Theatre, 1 Hope Place, Liverpool. The living, the dead and those in-between are invited to attend. From the publisher’s description: “800 Years of Haunted Liverpool takes the reader on a tour through the streets, cemeteries, alehouses, attics and docks of Liverpool. Drawing on historical and contemporary sources and containing many tales which have never before been published, it unearths a chilling range of supernatural phenomena, from the Grey Lady of Speke Hall to the ghost of John Lennon airport.” Sounds right up John’s dark and gloomy alley… Almost as important as John’s talk at the book launch is the fact that the venue is fully licensed with some decent beer on tap. The latest issue of the journal of the weird, the Fortean Times, features an extract from John’s book dealing with Spring-Heeled Jack in Liverpool.
