Books, Competitions

John Wyndham is, without a doubt, one of the great British (and world) science fiction writers of the 20th century, penning fascinating works which often explored the darker side of humanity, fear of the Other, the impact of technology and evolution and mankind’s seemingly endless ability to flirt with disasters of its own making. Some books like Day of the Triffids and the Midwich Cuckoos have become particularly famous, being endlessly adapted to radio, television and films, but all of his work carries with it a deep intelligence and an examination of the nature of humanity which remains forever relevant( he’s one of a select few authors to have featured twice in my own book group’s choices).

Our friends at Penguin Books have recently republished five of Wyndham’s classic novels – The Kraken Wakes, Midwich Cuckoos, Chrysalids, Day of the Triffids and The Trouble With Lichen – with sharp, modern jacket designs and they have kindly given us sets of them to offer to two lucky winners. All you have to do is head over to the main FPI website (and be logged in, please) and answer a pretty simple question before the end of Sunday 26th of October to be in with a chance of winning this fine new set of modern classics.
