Kate Brown in the Guardian

UK cartoonist and illustrator Kate Brown has been featured all this week in the Half-Term special comic (practically the whole front page) the Guardian has been producing to occupy all those bored schoolkids. Kate’s work has appeared in the Mammoth Best New Manga volumes and she is drawing ‘A Midsummer’s Nights Dream‘ for the Manga Shakespeare range from SelfMadeHero . Kate has always looked like a promising new UK comics talent and these strips are lovely showing her (to my eyes) moving somewhat away from the sharper lines I usually associate with Manga to a more fluid, lively line heading into Josh Middleton territory.

The subject matter and colourings also brought to mind the trailer I saw recently for the animated film by Spanish comics genius Miguelanxo Prado “De Profundis” (has this made it to DVD anywhere in the world yet? – if not someone get it out it looks amazing). Our congratulations to Kate for pulling off such a great, high profile gig as the Guardian – go check her work out at her own site and if you buy a paper next week remember you’ll at least get good comics here.

    Wow. That’s really lovely.

I don’t really care for the Guardian, but I wish I’d bought it this week.

That would make a really nice print. Forbidden Planet could sell it. I could buy it. Get me?
