Following last week’s announcement of the creative Emmy awards (which honour behind the scenes talent such as cinematographers, costume design, animators etc) the main prime time Emmy Awards were held last night in the US. Big winners seem to be comedy and satire with the Colbert Report and the Daily Show doing well, as did 30 Rock, the other big winner being heavyweight drama fare like John Adams. Genre winners were very thin on the ground – the only one I spotted was a name well-known to fans of the fantastical, Barry Sonnenfeld (the Addams Family movies, Men in Black) for Pushing Daisies, which netted an Outstanding Directing for a Comedy Series gong. Galactica won a couple of creative Emmy awards last week but it looks like slim pickings for SF&F fans last night; full details can be found on the official site.
