Michael Reccia tells us that the new volume – the ninth already if you can believe it – of Sci-Fi & Fantasy Modeller will come out in mid-April. My geek senses are a-tingle because as well as the usual compliment of articles and features on model creation (which are interesting even if you are all thumbs like me because they often reveal some fascinating behind the scenes effects work) there is a special focus one what I think is one of the coolest science fiction space ship designs from telefantasy, the Eagles from Gerry Anderson’s 70s live action Space 1999 (over 40 pages Michael tells me).

Sighs nostalgically – those of you who grew up in the 70s and had those classic Dinky die-cast Eagles will know exactly why that’s hitting my nostalgia button. And in addition to the nostalgia button there was the fact that unusually for 70s SF-TV the Eagles were actually a pretty practical design (based on the Harrier jump-jet, Gerry once remarked) and, of course, being a Gerry Anderson production the details on the models were simply superb (no wonder Kubrick once tried to poach him to do the model work for 2001).
