The shortlist for the Best Vinyl Cover Art of 2008 have been announced and in among the various album covers from artists and groups like Cat Power, Goldfrapp, Bjork, Metallica and others (including a band with the fabulous name of the Fuck Buttons) there’s also The Seldom Seen Kid, the Mercury award-winning album from Elbow, with artwork from Manchester’s own Oli East. The first Trains Are Mint hardback collection, an Ignatz nomination for said graphic novel, artwork for one of the most talked about, award-winning albums of the year and now another nomination for record sleeve art – should we be renaming 2008 The Year of the Oli? The winner of the fourth record cover award is determined by a public vote and will be announced on January 5th. Obviously we wish the best of luck to all nominees and are remaining professional and impartial and not saying VOTE OLI at all. No, no, we’re staying utterly impartial. Really. Putting VOTE OLI in capitals wasn’t an attempt at subliminal suggestion at all, no sirree…
