Radio 4: The Reunion – bringing together DC Thompson’s finest.

Down The Tubes and Lew Stringer bring news of a special comics related Reunion, a Radio 4 programme this Sunday 20th April, from 11:15 to 12:00 noon.

It’s spotlighting a host of creators from the heyday of the Beano and the Dandy.

“The main interviewees are artists Bill Ritchie (of Baby Crockett fame, more about him on Peter Gray’s web site) and Jim Petrie (who drew 2,000 Minnie the Minx episodes) and writers Walter Fearn (at The Beano during the 1950s, notably on Jonah with Ken Reid) and Dave Torrie (another ex Dandy editor).

Sounds like a pleasant way to while away a Sunday morning to me.

No mention during the programme of D C Thomson’s racist policy whereby no person of Irish Catholic origin was given a job there. No mention of the fact that this policy was implimented by the workforce rather than the owners. Shameful omission as, for many, this fact places their homespun image in a different light. The editor of the Dandy, during the 60′s, was a notorious bigot

Alan I’m not disputing with you since I simply don’t know enough about it (and bigotry from both sides of the Catholic-Protestant divide has sadly been all to evident in a lot of Scottish culture) but its not something I’ve heard anyone such as the old DCT staffers mention this.
