Comics and cartoons

Tom on Comics Reporter notes a rather sad story I missed over the Easter break, that respected Belgian publisher Raymond Leblanc has passed away at the age of 92. Raymond, a former Resistance member during the Nazi occupation, was one of the great figures of European comics; he founded the famous Tintin magazine (how many European kids grew up reading that?) and drove Lombard to be one of the pre-eminent publishers of graphic novels, working with a roll-call of the great and the good of our beloved genre and undeniably influencing the comics world far beyond the BD scene of Belgium and France. Last year we were extremely fortunate when Wim Lockefeer translated Toon Horsten’s interview with Raymond which had appeared in Stripgids and, rather than write more here I think our readers would be better served by going to that very fine article.
