Film, TV and radio

Scottish actor Robert Carlyle has been signed to appear in the new Stargate series, Stargate Universe, the third series to be spun off from the original movie after the incredibly popular SG-1 and the later Atlantis. The Trainspotting star and former Bond villain will play Doctor David Rush, who leads a team of soldiers, scientists and civilians who are forced through a Stargate when their base comes under attack only to find themselves stranded and on their own (shades of Voyager, surely?), emerging on an ancient ship in deep space. Filming is due to commence in February for a proposed summer broadcast on the US Sci-Fi Channel. I wonder if this will mean his name stops being mentioned by some parts of the rumour mill as a potential new lead for Doctor Who? (via the BBC)
