Andrew at MagPicutres sent me a link to a new horror film they have coming up in the near future, Signal, which sounds a bit unusual – for starters it has three directors (David Bruckner, Dan Bush, and Jacob Gentry), each showing the events from a different perspective. The titular signal is a pervasive transmission which drives ordinary people to horrendous acts of sudden violence (sounds a little like an X-Files episode crossed with Stephen King). I’m never too sure about a multi-director approach – it could backfire easily (remember Four Rooms?) or it could make things more interesting; probably best to reserve judgement until I actually see it, of course. That said, it is pretty encouraging when you see Ain’t It Cool News handing out a quote like “This film will explode. Mark my words. It has cult classic written all over it.” Yes, I know, hyperbole and all that, but I tend to trust statements like that from AICN more than I would print journalists because the AICN crew are as big a bunch of fanboys as we are. And let’s be honest, it’s always good to see someone trying to do something different with the horror genre and not just slavishly copying the Saw and Hostel type franchises (which were interesting to begin with, but seem to me to wear a bit thin after a while). You can see the trailer on YouTube here and there’s more information on the official site.
