Simps win at Creative Emmy awards

The long-running animation series the Simpsons has added yet another gong to its long list of awards picked up over the years at the Creative Arts Emmy Awards. The main Emmy Awards are due next weekend, one of the biggest events for US TV creators and actors, but the Creative Art awards which come before the main ceremony honours the creative talent behind the scenes who actually make the programmes work, such as make-up, costume, cinematography, direction, animation and effects. The Simpsons picked up the gong for Outstanding Animated Programme for the Eternal Moonshine of the Simpson Mind episode. I see this episode got some good word of mouth online, perhaps I might have to start watching the Simpsons again – the last few seasons seemed very dull to me and very tired and I have to confess, much as I loved the show I found recent seasons to be a poor shadow of its creative height and slowly drifted away; maybe its time to give it another spin.

Another long running series, South Park, picked up the Outstanding Animated Programme award, while the Sci-Fi Channel’s reworking of Baum’s classic Wizard of Oz, Tin Man, scored in the Outstanding Make-up for a Mini-Series or Movie. The official press release doesn’t seem entirely clear to me but I think its saying that the award for Outstanding Achievement in Animation was split between Ben Balistreri for Foster’s Home For Imaginary Friends and Terese Drilling for Creature Comforts America. Battlestar Galactica won the Outstanding Special Visual Effects for a Series award and another gong for a special class award, Short Format Live Action Entertainment Program for a featurette on the grim and dark Razor story, Smallville picked up a gong in the Sound Editing (I’m going to stop using the word ‘outstanding’ they put in front of most awards, I think we all assume the award goes to good or ‘outstanding’ work..), Heroes the Digital Experience on NBC’s site shared the Interactive Media Programming award with the Disney Channel’s Games Digital Media Event (whatever that is). The full list of winners can be downloaded from the official Emmy site.
