Gemma Arterton, currently being seen on cinema screen in the updated St Trinian’s film – based on the work of British cartoonist Ronald Searle – where she plays the Head Girl (for non British readers, Head Girl is a position of authority and doesn’t mean anything rude, although feel free to snigger), has been widely reported in a number of places over the weekend to be appearing in the next James Bond flick (still going under the catchy title of ‘Bond 22′). Details are scarce, which is hardly a surprise when they haven’t even announced a a title as yet, but Gemma will apparently play a character called Fields and, according to a spokesperson for the producers she has “a nice-sized role” (no, that isn’t a double entendre either, honest).

According to the BBC insiders think the new Bond movie – due in November – will pick up roughly from where the revisionist (and highly enjoyable) Casino Royale left off and may be based partly on a short story by Ian Fleming, “Risico”, which involves Bond infiltrating a gang of drug smugglers. French actor Mathieu Amalric has also been confirmed to play the new Bond villain.
