The BBC’s Neil Smith has seen some advance footage from JJ Abrams’ Star Trek XI movie – sadly there isn’t a link to the actual footage for we mere Earth-bound misfits to see, but Smith does provide a description of the sneak peeks of the footage the assembled press were allowed to see as they munched on cakes with the Starfleet logo on them. He also mentions that Abrams confessed he had “never really been a huge Star Trek fan” and that he thought “It was always someone else’s show.” Which seems odd to me because he sounded much more like a fanboy from way back in the large feature on the new movie in this month’s Empire magazine. I wonder which is right and what, if anything, it means for the chances of me liking the movie come May? Oh well, hopefully Paramount will stick up some footage fairly soon and we can get a look.
