As the Halloween season beckons and ghosts and ghouls walk our streets, here’s a little seasonal present for you from our regular contributor and top cartoonist Rod McKie and FPI, a little spooky tale of tall tales, movie stars, ghosts, an ancient churchyard and, this being set in Edinburgh, a good pub. For those who have never visited the city, Greyfriar’s Bobby is an old pub only a few minutes walk from the Forbidden Planet store in Edinburgh’s Old Town. It is named for the famously loyal dog (immortalised in many books and the Disney film) who stayed by the grave of his master until his own death, eventually being adopted by the city so he wouldn’t be treated as a stray under law (directly opposite the pub is a statue of Bobby, usually surrounded by flocks of tourists).

The pub and the apartments above back directly onto the very historic Greyfriar’s Kirkyard and church; many of the crumbling old tombs literally share the back wall of the pub and the flats, large, ornate stonework covered in memento mori right against the buildings – between those and the history its not hard to think of it as haunted…Rod has very kindly not only created this seasonal spook story set in the winding streets, old graveyards and pubs of Edinburgh, he’s put it into a good resolution PDF which you can grab from us here and read free online or download it and print it off to read; he’s also created it in a Comic Book Reader version (as a mini comic) so if you use the CBR viewer or GonVisor you can use those to download it here. Enjoy and happy Halloween!!!
