Comics and cartoons

Steve Holland adds to the celebrations for the immortal Beano’s 70th birthday bash with a look at Reg Carter, the artist behind Big Eggo, the ostrich character who was the star of the front page strip on that very first Beano back in 1938. 1938 – I know we’ve been discussing the Beano’s anniversary a lot recently, but still, just thinking on that timescale – I grew up reading it, my dad read it, his dad read it… Its not just the comic, not just the laughs and the inventive characters and the clever art, its the way the reading of that continuing comic across the decades is one of those little threads that links so many of us through several generations. Its a warming thought.
