On the Times’ Blockbuster Buzz Michael Moran lists a top ten of extremely ill-advised movie sequels that are doing the rounds of the rumour mill at the moment – some, like a third Ghostbusters film, may have substance, others are more than likely just some off the cuff remark by a studio exec that’s been blown up to become a Gossip Giant. I note with special interest the entry for ‘Watchmen 2′, a rumour started after Patrick Wilson (who plays Night Owl) was quoted as saying the studio had already discussed the possibility (well we all know studio execs love a franchise). I like Michael’s take on this rumour: “Of all the ill-advised moneymaking ventures on this list, this is the only one that you can be certain will never, ever happen. If the idea ever got as far as script stage you can be sure Alan Moore would set fire to his beard and run amok on the Warner Brothers backlot with a cutlass.” You know, he might just do that, leaping off the Black Freighter, cutlass in hand, and I think a lot of us would be happy to be part of his boarding party too.
