Torchwood time!

It seems like the SF world is going into a Torchwood tizzy right now. Obviously we’re all pretty excited about the second season of Torchwood which starts tonight at 9pm, now promoted to terrestrial channel BBC2 from the digital BBC3. We’re super-stoked about Captain Jack – the brilliant John Barrowman – we love John Barrowman, how can you not? – and his old colleague/flame Captain John (James Marsters) on screen together. We’re giddy with excitement at the thought of Martha Jones turning up later in the season.

And the build-up is, well, building up! Russell T Davies was the guest on Nemone’s BBC 6 Music radio show yesterday, Eve Myles (Gwen Cooper) and Naoko Mori (Toshiko Sato) were on the BBC’s Breakfast sofa this morning (there’s a sight to wake up to). And there’s more – Monica Patel drops a line from Titan (the publishers, not the moon where bad Judges go) to tell us about their brand-new Torchwood: the Official Magazine which will be running monthly from the end of January and which will include comic strip adventures for the team. From the official release: “The Torchwood comic strip takes Jack Harkness and his team on fantastic and thrilling adventures in the Torchwood universe – facing a host of new aliens, villains, and alien villains! The first volume will run over a thirteen-part arc, with an instalment in every issue of Torchwood Magazine. The strip will run independently of the television series, and will boast a wide range of celebrated comics writers and artists.”

“The comic series kicks off with The Legacy of Torchwood 1, the tale of a misguided Torchwood scientist whose creation sets off on a rampage of gruesome violence. As ever, it falls upon the Torchwood team to save the day! The Legacy of Torchwood 1 is written by the legendary Simon Furman (Transformers), and pencilled by SL Gallant (DreamWorks Tales).”

(What the world’s been waiting for – comic book Captain Jack! Taken from the Legacy of Torchwood strip in Titan’s new Torchwood Official Magazine, written by Simon Furman, art by SL Gallant; the first issue should be on the shelves around the 24th of this month)

And here’s one final Torchwood tidbit for you to enjoy – Action-Figure.com revealed that the company GetRetro are adding Torchwood merchandise to their existing Doctor Who range. An initial range of four five-inch Torchwood action figures have been licensed by the Beeb, with more waves to follow later on. We don’t have any solid details on the figures yet, but they are expected to be revealed a little later this year with a provisional release date sometime in the late spring, early summer (of course we’ll let you know as soon as we add them to our webstore). Great news, we’ve all been wondering when we would see some Torchwood figures.
