Worry Doll Down Under

Matt Coyle’s unique, unusual and fascinating graphic novel Worry Doll will be the subject of an exhibition in Willow Court, Tasmania, a rather appropriate setting for the exhibition as some of the artwork was based on local landmarks. The artwork will be “presented in a unique walk-through installation that brings to life the historic asylum buildings at Willow Court in New Norfolk. It’s a haunting setting for this surreal and mesmerising dreamscape.” Damn, why is Tasmania so far from Scotland?

It looks as if the exhibition is part of a much larger, Tasmania-wide arts festival, Ten Days on the Island, which runs from the 27th of March to the 5th of April 2009; for more details check the website. Kenny spotted the news via Liam Sharp on the MillarWorld forums, where I notice Liam saying that it has been a struggle to sell the book in the UK and US (which is a great shame, I recall it got some good word of mouth when it was coming out, but sadly that doesn’t always translate into actual sales), but on the upside the media attention Coyle has received in Australia its done well and he’s now illustrating for the Art and Australia magazine.
