The Beeb reports that organisers of Nottingham’s annual GameCity festival are requesting volunteers of the undead variety to perform a mass zombie version of Michael Jackson’s Thriller and also to beat the record for the largest gathering of zombies set last November in the Monroeville Mall in Pittsburgh (an appropriate location since Pittsburgh is where the great George Romero started off behind the camera). To break the record they will need more than 1, 124 zombies – volunteers need to turn up at Nottingham’s Old Market Square by 2pm this afternoon to be transformed, with the record attempt at 5pm.

Organiser Iain Simons explains “We can provide you with a zombie kit, we can train you to walk like a zombie, talk like a zombie, shuffle like a zombie. We’ll train you to do the Thriller dance… As any self-respecting zombie knows, it’s very important that they come together and dance the Michael Jackson Thriller dance because that’s what zombies do when they congregate.” Its true, zombies do the Thriller dance, werewolves prefer to do the Monster Mash and vampires generally like to click their fingers and teeth in time to the Addams Family theme.
