24 Hour Comic Day Dublin

Cliodhna Lyons fills us in on more details on this year’s Irish 24 Hour Comics Day, which will take place in Dublin’s Central Hotel (on Exchequer Street) from 11am on Saturday 17th of October through to 1pm on Sunday 18th; this year the Dublin 24 Hour Comic day has joined up with the Children’s Book Festival and there will be some great-sounding events for the kids (and teens) as a result.

For the seven and unders there’s a free-for-all comics jam at 11.30am, then animator and illustrator Maeve Clancey will have a pop-up book workshop for the six-and-over crowd at 12.30, Phil Barrett and Bridgeen Gillespie are running a mini-comics workshop for 8 to 12 year olds at 2pm, at 3 and 4pm Tsuyoshi Ogawa, in conjunction with International Manga Museum, Kyoto, will give workshops (earlier one for younger kids, second for teens) showing them what a manga assistant does, the always-wonderful Sarah McIntyre will be showing kids how to create a fine array of monstrous beasties as well as reading from her Morris the Mankiest Monster while for the older teens there is a discussion with several Irish comics creators at 7pm on how to get started in self publishing in print and online. Meanwhile the more usual all-night events of 24 Hour Comics Day goes on of course. Sounds like it will be a brilliant time and nice to see the family friendly aspect, hopefully that encourages more folks to visit and take along the sprogs (hook ‘em on comics now and we’ve got ‘em for life!).
