Actions Comics sells for Superprice

That rare copy of Action Comics #1 featuring the first appearance of Siegel and Shuster’s Superman I mentioned going up for auction a couple of weeks ago has now been sold, for the princely sum of $317, 000 to an un-named buyer, a pretty hefty return on the original 35 cent investment the previous (also un-named) owner paid for it back in the early 1950s after persuading his dad to give him the money to pick it up when he saw it in a second hand bookstore. He found the comic again in his mother’s attic in the mid 60s and decided to keep it and see if it increased in value. I think we could say that was a good call… (via the BBC)

Man, whoever bought it is going to feel like a rube when they realize you can get a reprint for just a few quid.
