Berlin Wall cartoon Giles

(Giles comments on a slight relaxing on the tight rules on crossing the Berlin Wall in the early 1960s when relatives were allowed to cross over specially for Christmas to visit families in East Berlin, (c) Giles, borrowed from Cartoon History of Britain)

Germany is celebrating the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall today. Hard to believe that’s 20 years already; there will be students at secondary school now and it will be just history to them while to the older generations who grew up with this most solid symbol of the Cold War remember its hideous existence all too well and the joy at its toppling.
