Aydın Doğan International Cartoon Competition

The Aydın Doğan Foundation‘s annual International Cartoon Competition has just opened an exhibition of the winners and selected other cartoons from artists from around the world in the Caddebostan Culture Center in Istanbul (over 6, 000 entries were received for the competition from 130 different countries). The 2009 competition is now underway and the call has gone out for entrants; the choice of subject matter is up to the participants this year (open to both amateur and professional cartoonists worldwide) and the deadline is the 1st of May, with the jury meeting in June and the winners announced at a ceremony in Istanbul in November.

The first prize is $8000 (US), second prize of $5000 and a third prize of $3500, in addition to some special awards, as well as having the winning works exhibited and hopefully picking up some international exposure, so its well worth the effort for those cartoonists out there who might be thinking about it. Caricaturque has more details and you can also check out the official site (which is available in English as well as Turkish) for more information, download the participation form and to browse the galleries of past winners and entrants; there are several galleries of cartoons, so even if you aren’t thinking of entering it is well worth a browse.
