British International Comics Show 2009 – one month to go….

BICSHOMEIMAGE

The British International Comics Show 2009 takes place over the weekend of October 2nd-4th in Birmingham.

The whole thing starts off with the traditional launch party where lots of your favourite comic people get drunk spend an enjoyable evening watching comic people in bands and generally catching up. A great night for all – if you can get tickets – do so.

Shane Chebsey has been in touch with a full list of the events happening on Saturday & Sunday and there’s a complete list up at the BICS website. The events include: Paul Gravett talking about foreign language translations, 70 years of Marvel & Batman, Adapting the Classics with Self Made Hero, David Lloyd and Steve Merchent discussing Comics Classroom, a look at comic movies with Mike Conroy and more. As usual there’s a healthy selection of light-hearted events including Have I Got Comics News For You and Lee Barnett’s Kryptonite Factor.

Key events include a chat with Howard Chaykin and Bryan Talbot launching his new book Grandville on the Saturday and Gary Leach  creating a cover live on the Sunday.

Very much something for everyone. I’ve  been to the last two Birmingham shows, as Birmingham is my comic homeland (I did spend 19 years at Nostalgia & Comics there – longest Saturday job in the world possibly?) and I’ve thouroughly enjoyed my time at BICS. I hope to see you there this year.
