At BICS last weekend David Lloyd and Steve Marchant officially launched the Cartoon Classroom website. The eventual aim of Cartoon Classroom is to become a one stop information centre for all professional and organisations that have a connection with comics and cartooning including galleries and exhibitions, libraries, educational establishments and any cartoonists/ comic creators who are involved in teaching in some form. The new website lists the Cartoon Classroom’s three main aims as:
1) To provide information for all officially recognised organisations who seek professional cartoonists to lecture and teach.
2) To provide basic advice and information to any member of the public wanting to study cartoon art, strip illustration and/or the specialised writing skills linked to such work.
3) To be the one central access point across the UK for those studying cartoon art, and for those who provide facilities for such study. We invite colleges, galleries, museums, libraries, and practising professional cartoonists, to register with us and supply information for our service. Cartoon Classroom is a non-profit venture, initiated with support from Caption, Oxford’s annual small-press comics convention. It is overseen by comics-industry professionals with long-standing experience in educational fields.
Right now the website is a little sparse, but it’s something that requires all of our involvement to make it really worthwhile.
