With MCM Expo wrapping up this weekend it’s time to look forward to the next big comics events on the calendar, and November has not one, but two big Comic events:
First up we have the annual Comica festival in London, curated by Paul Gravett. As usual the list of events stretches all the way through November, with too many to list here, but highlights include: The Observer Graphic Short Story Prize 2009, 30 Years Of Viz Exhibition and a host of conversations happening including: Bryan Talbot, Kevin O’Neil, Sarah McIntyre, Eddie Campbell and many many more.
Also this year sees the return of the Comiket small press show. Last year this was organised by London Underground Comics but this year sees the torch passing to We Are Words & Pictures, the collective consisting of Sarah Gordon, Julia Scheele and Matthew Sheret. Comiket promises “the season’s most sizzling and significant gathering of scribes and scrawlers from across the UK indie scene”. It all happens at the ICA on November 8th.
The Comica festival takes place from 5th to 26th November with many of the festival’s exhibitions carrying on until the new year. Full details are available from the Comica site with a full progamme of the events here.
Then, just as Comica is winding up, our attention heads up north to the annual Leeds Thought Bubble festival. Although only a four day festival it still manages to pack an amazing number of events into it’s packed programme and has a large and diverse guest list. It’s rapidly becoming a highlight of the comics year, with everyone who attends (including me) raving about how fresh, exciting and thoroughly enjoyable it is.
Thought Bubble takes place from 19th to 22nd November, with a one day convention on 21st November.

Be sure to stop by my table at Thought Bubble, Richard. I’ll have a free comic for you!

Will do. Looking forward to it. Last year was definitely a great day of comics – lots of new publishers, new comics and most importantly new customers with a decidedly younger age range than normal.

We have Mike Carey signing at the Murky Depths table between 2 and 3 pm. Pick up a copy of Issue #10 to read his story “Now! and Then!”
We’ll also have a brand new standalone comic from Luke Cooper, if you like your gore in technicolour!
