This year’s Comica festival has, from all accounts, been it’s usual huge success, with exhibitions, events, screenings and the one day Comiket festival convention being particularly well praised – see the Guardian piece about it here. But Comica isn’t over yet – the events go all the way to the 26th November. Full details at the Comica site:
And next weekend we have the annual Leeds Thought Bubble sequential-art festival happening from the 19th – 22nd November across Leeds with it’s centrepiece comic convention on Saturday 21st November. Like the good folks at Thought Bubble say:
“The festival celebrates comic books, manga, anime and graphic novels in all their different guises, including everything from superheroes to independent small-press, and aims to cater to both long-time comic book fans as well as those who have never picked up a graphic novel before.”
I went last year to Thought Bubble and heartily agree with that. It’s diverse and inclusive, lots of different and unusual books to see and a young, very interested audience to sell them to.
Big name guests confirmed for this year’s Thought Bubble include Ben Templesmith, Frank Quitely, Alex Maleev, Paul Cornell, Andy Diggle, with many more on the guest list (see here for more details). The list of small press talent on display is too big to go into – luckily Hugh “Shug” Raine has made a nice poster to tell us all about them instead…….
