Insomnia’s Red Eye blog has a photograph of a “double page bedspread” (as author Cy Dethan described it) – its a 90″ by 70″ quilt based on Stephen Downey’s artwork from Cancertown. There’s more on this bed linen/comics crossover on the blog of the quilter responsible, Ferret. That’s one of the more unusual and cooler comics inspired works I’ve seen recently! I wonder if Ferret would create a Mega City One cityscape quilt…

(Ferret’s interpretation of Stephen’s comics art through the medium of quilting; check her blog and look at the large version of this pic, the detail is superb)

I would love to work more with comics artists. The limitation on what I can do is copyrights. I was very lucky to be given permission to make this by the artist, author and publishers. I hope that there will be the chance to do more with Insomnia in the future. This quilt will be heading off to quilt shows around the world, but hopefully with will be free to attend some of the UK comics fairs too. It really needs to be seen in person to appreciate the scale of the work.
So if anyone has any more opportunities for me to do this sort of work, please do get in touch.
