Scots actor Alan Cumming has joined the cast of the Spider-Man musical, Turn Off the Dark, where he will be playing Spidey’s nemesis Norman Osborn, better known as the Green Goblin. “He has such range and such charisma as a performer that I feel his Green Goblin will bring many surprises that will move and entertain us,” commented director Julie Taymor, who has worked with the actor before. Wrestler star Evan Rachel Wood has also been confirmed for the role of Mary Jane Watson, although the actor who will don the Spidey suit is still unknown. The musical, scored by U2’s Bono and the Edge, is due to open next year, with preview performances expected to open towards the end of February 2010. I’m still waiting to hear if they will include a nod to the classic Spidey cartoon theme song – preferably the version performed by the mighty Ramones. (via the BBC)
