Books

Among a stack of new DC pre-order titles I added to the site this week I noticed the long-awaited comics writing debut of internationally best-selling Scottish author Ian Rankin, with Dark Entries, a tale set in the Hellblazer universe, which sees Constantine, who has dealt with demons, monsters and lung cancer, face true horror: reality television… I’ve had the fortune to do several book events over the years with Ian and seriously enjoyed his Edinburgh-set Inspector Rebus novels (I don’t read a lot of crime novels, but I really like these); I also know he’s a long-time comics reader and I’m really keen to see what he’s come up with for his comics writing bow – I’m sure it will be interesting.

(cover to Dark Entries, written by Ian Rankin, art by Wether Dell’ Edera, cover by Lee Bermejo, (c) DC/Vertigo, due August 2009; I like the fact the cover looks quite similar to one of Ian’s crime novels, be nice if that helps draw in more non-comics readers to take a look)
