An online vote on Total SciFi for the best television science fiction theme has been won by the incredibly distinctive (not to mention now iconic) Doctor Who theme, originally composed by Ron Grainer and arranged by Delia Derbyshire and the old BBC Radiophonic Workshop (who also provided incidental music and a plethora of sound effects for the show during its long history). The Doctor Who theme beat competition from Red Dwarf (second place), the X-Files (third place) and a number of other popular shows including the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy (I still love that theme), Buffy the Vampire Slayer and the evocative Thunderbirds theme.
