Comic Mix and many other sites are reporting that the mighty Joss Whedon’s current TV series Dollhouse has been axed. It’s sad but not exactly a surprise – in fact it was a surprise to many that the show managed to bag a second season after poor ratings and a lot of criticism of the first season. Much as I love Whedon’s work (and oh boy I do) and much as I’d crawl over burning coals to make Eliza Dushku happy I have to admit there was justification to some of the criticism, especially the first half of season one which was very slow and spotty; it certainly picked up and developed later on but it must have lost a lot of viewers by that point, so many were surprised but pleased it was renewed for a second season and allowed to develop, but it seems that second season is it and even adding another Whedon alumnus to the show in the fetching form of Summer Glau won’t avert the axe. The only good news is that apparently Joss has been given plenty of warning so he can wrap up some of the story threads to Dollhouse before it finishes.

Solid work, though no Firefly. It had all the hallmarks of a show that would have two or three great seasons and then run out of gas. Eliza Dushku is great.
