Geekgasm alert!!! How utterly cool are these new classic Doctor Who figures which have only just been announced by Character Options (and which are exclusive to Forbidden Planet outside of the USA and Canada):

Patrick Troughton Doctor Who Cyberman figures Forbidden Planet exclusive.jpg

As you can see these are entries in the growing classic Doctor Who range, which is something many fans have been clamouring for (last year’s first wave of classic small action figures such as the Tom Baker and Peter Davison ones were hugely popular, I have some on my own desk in fact and dammit, I want more). The second Doctor, Patrick Troughton, makes his first appearance in the range, his wonderfully hang-dog expression presented in both the original black and white in which his era of the show would be broadcast and (a bit like the popular Sin City movie figures from a few years back) also available in a colour version, with the colour detail authenticated by the use of colour behind-the-scenes photographs for accuracy. Pat’s ‘cosmic hobo’ incarnation of the Doctor (the very first regeneration we ever saw of the venerable Time Lord) is beautifully detailed (as we’d expect from CR) and comes with one of his arch enemies, a Tomb of the Cybermen era Cyberman, not to mention his beloved flute.

William Hartnell Doctor Who Dalek figures Forbidden Planet exclusive.jpg

Also in this same range (and also available in black and white or colour) is the very first Doctor, sporting a good, detailed likeness of irascible face of the actor who started the world’s longest running science fiction television series, William Hartnell (who would have thought a little show almost forgotten among the international shock of the Kennedy assassination back in November 1963 would become first a British institution and then internationally adored?). Bill’s Doctor comes with an enemy which has, like the rival Cybermen, become iconic – the Dalek. The eagle-eyed among you will already have spotted that this is the Black Dalek from the Hartnell-era Dalek Invasion of Earth with the distinctive banding and the energy collecting disc on the rear, coming from the age of Dalekmania where schoolkids across Britain were gleefully running around yelling “exterminate” and thus securing Who in the affections of generations.

Colin Baker Doctor Who Real Time Blue costume Forbidden Planet exclusive.jpg

Rounding out the start of this new classic Doctor Who range is this unusual version of Colin Baker’s sixth Doctor – instead of his more familiar (and rather over the top) multi-coloured costume (which must have caused many to adjust their sets in the 80s) here he is presented in his Real Time blue variation of the costume as used on the BBC webcast and also on several audio story and book covers. These are going to be massively popular with fans – I’ve got to admit I love the look of them (and I have always had a special affection for Troughton’s Doctor) and with them being FP exclusives the demand is going to be huge, so you should start placing those orders now.
