Film, TV and radio

Fissure is a new independent detective/science fiction film by Russ Pond which is making the most of digital tech to create and show an independent film. Each Monday (starting yesterday) a new webisode will be released as Detective Grunning (played by James MacDonald) attempts to put together the events of a fractured reality. I’ve only seen the first part but its impressively professional looking, with the makers obviously putting in a great effort to avoid the shoestring budget being obvious on the screen (and doing well in that respect). I’m intrigued and will need to bookmark and follow this (there will be a DVD release of the whole thing later in the summer and a few screenings in the US); I’m also fascinated by the making of by Russ (in the ‘about’ section of the Fissure site) which details not only the ideas and inspiration behind the film but the practical difficulties of making an independent, low-budget film and how to overcome them, from locations and casting to using your own digital tech to save several thousand dollars on visual effects that can actually be done on your own computer with a bit of know-how.
