Jon Haward tells me that Classical Comics adaptation of Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein (on which Jon was art director) has won its first award, a Distinguished Achievement from the Educational Publishers in America. I can understand that – as well as doing some very nice adaptations Classical include material at the end of each book with details of the original book, the historical period it was created in and teacher’s notes, so they really are pretty darned good for use by teachers and librarians trying to encourage kids into the classics. Congrats to Classical and also to Declan Shalvey who created the excellent artwork for Frankenstein; you can read a Q&A with Declan and a talk through how he approached some of the art here on the blog.

On a related note I see Declan has posted up a report with plenty of photos from the recent 2D comics festival in Northern Ireland.
