From our continental correspondent – Shaun Tan’s European Tour

Celebrated Australian illustrator and cartoonist Shaun tan (The Arrival, Tales From Outer Suburbia) is currently touring Europe (or at least part of it) with an exhibition of a selection of his illustrative work and comics.  The exhibition debuted on October 11th in the Burg Wissem Bilderbuchmuseum (or Picture Book Museum) in Troisdorf, Germany, and features a wide range of original art from Tan’s extensive portfolio.  According to Doctor Maria Linsmann, the museum director and author of the show’s catalogue, the exhibition shows Tan as an artist whose works skirts the boundaries of the comic, the graphic novel, illustrative and free art, and will fascinate adult and young viewers alike.  Next to original work from Tan’s illustrated books, the exhibition also contains sketches and preparatory work.

After Troisdorf, the exhibition travels to the International Youth Library in Munich and the Museum Im Schloss in Bad Pyrmont and the Literair Museum in Hasselt (Belgium).  You can expect a review when I catch it there.
