Here’s a little something from the past that should be cherished.  In 1978, Pierre Culliford, born in 1928 as the son of an expatriate Brit and better known as Peyo, celebrated his 50th birthday.  To honour that occasion, Yvan Delporte, the legendary editor of Spirou Magazine (and subject of a new, wonderful book by Christelle and Bertrand Pissavy-Yvernault), brought together some of Peyo’s colleagues and created a very zany home movie.

It’s a must for any Eurocomics fan, as the short clip features Liliane and André Franquin, Jean Roba, Tibet and even F’Murr singing a song and going through some silly stop-motion routines.  Thirty years on, this movie was discovered on the Spirou site last August by the Belgian comic and graphic design collective Coiffeurs Pour Dames (remember them?), who promptly mentioned it on their Tchac Tchac blog.  It’s an MP4 file, and encoding is a little dodgy at times, but it’s quite a sight to see.
