Comics and cartoons

Gary Northfield is rather chuffed – and deservedly so – to have some of his cartooning work featured in the latest National Geographic Kids in the form of a two page strip about Anne Frank. Gary tells me this has been a regular in Nat Geo’s supplement for a while and he’s already covered a number of other important historical figures in a fun way for kids, including Einstein, Newton, Ghandi, Cleopatra, Emmeline Pankhurst and Martin Luther King. Actually when you put their names together like that it sounds a bit like an alternative League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, with MLK and Ghandi trying to thwart an evil mastermind using only non violent means while Ms Pankhurst berates Cleopatra for being too quick to use her sexuality to get what she want and thus demeaning other women. Meanwhile Newton and Einstein argue physics while trying to score with Cleo. Or is that just me…
