The award-winning children’s illustrated book The Gruffalo, written by Julia Donaldson and illustrated by Axel Scheffler, is coming to the BBC this Christmas as a one-off animated adventure. The incredibly popular (and rather lovely) kid’s picture book will be brought to life in a 30 minute animation with the voice talent comprising an all-star cast including Helena Bonham Carter, Rob Brydon, Tom Wilkinson, James Corden, John Hurt and Robbie Coltrane, while the animation will feature a combination of model work with CGI.

“I’m very excited by what I have seen of the animation, in particular by how faithful it is to the original story, while incorporating lots of imaginative touches to bring the Deep Dark Wood alive,” author Julia Donaldson. I imagine kids and parents alike will be delighted at this. (via the BBC)

Danny, the BBC Press office mentioned it just recently as part of this December’s Christmas line up on the Beeb, so it should be along quite soon, looking forward to it myself
