Highland Open Studios Event

Vicky Stonebridge, one of the guiding lights of the excellent Hi-Ex Highlands comics convention, is again exhibiting some of her art this summer. From May 30th to the 7th of June the Highland Open Studios Event will be open for visitors and this year, instead of the usual venues like the studio, Vicky will be exhibiting in her local fire station in Lochcarron. “It seemed the obvious choice in a way as I have been working on a collection of paintings which represent scenes from my job as a retained fire fighter,” she commented. I had no idea that as well as being a great artist, potter, comics creator and comics con organiser Vicky was also a firefighter! Talk about a positive role model for young women who wonder if the comics community is for them… Mind you this explains why she seemed so hostile to any mention of the Human Torch during the first Hi-Ex… There will be a collection for the fire fighter’s charity during the exhibition.

In addition to the Highland Open Studios events Vicky has again been engaging with local schools, getting the kids going by showing them how to create their own manga. On the 8th and 10th of June she will be holding another school pupil manga workshop, this time in the Gairloch public library; for more details and to check out some of Vicky’s art visit her website.
